How evil do you want to be?

In Overlord you get to answer that question. You emerge from the ruins of the previous dark Overlord’s Tower. After a quick introduction it’s onto the game at hand. First you have to rebuild the tower by journeying around looking for specific items that you need, and to do this you have your minions to help you. These devilish little fellows are the key to the games uniqueness. You can command them to go kill your adversities, though from time to time you will have to do the killing yourself, move obstacles and more importantly, sacrifice themselves on the altar of your replenishing health.

It’s the minions that make Overlord fun – rather than running around killing everything yourself, you have to think and use your minions wisely. As the game progresses you’ll have different types of minions, and the option to kill villagers, or have them serve you. Each has it’s own rewards.

With the cartoon style graphics you know that this isn’t a game that wants to be taken as a serious as the whole evil-master-taking-over-the-world theme would have you think. On one level it’s like the dark forces of the Lord of the Rings movies, but on the other hand it’s got that comic GTA style that makes you laugh at the violent confrontations.

For an adult gamer this all adds up to some challenging and fun game play, but for parents who allow their kids to play whatever they want, you might want to think twice about this game, and the ramifications of having your child desire to become the most evil Overlord there has ever been.
