Life on Mars S2

Posted by admin On May - 23 - 2008

Since DCI Sam Tyler got hit by a car at the start of season one, he’s been trapped in an alternative reality, set in 1973. Convinced he is actually in a coma in the present time at that his life in the 70’s is just a dream, he has to find a way out of his coma. In the meantime however, he has to fulfil his role as a member of a very un-PC Police team under the leadership of DCI Gene Hunt. Hunt believes that the law doesn’t apply to him or his cops, and that they can do what every they want to put the bad guys away. Sam however, trained in the modern ways of Policing is always on his back trying to get him to do it the right way.

With the show winding up this season, things start to go into overdrive and Sam starts to wonder if everything he thinks he know is just a dream and starts to act even more erratic than in the first season, leading up to a thrilling last two episodes where the plot twists and turns to come to a stunning conclusion that you won’t see coming.

To call Life on Mar the best television series ever might be a tall order, but it’s up there with the best. It has plenty going for it; originality, un-PC humour by the spade-load, plenty of action and Lost style mystery and intrigue. It even has a bit of romance.

As clichéd as the team may be, and some of the cases as well, the characters are all lovable so rather that just focussing on the key character, we’re drawn into the life of the team as a whole.

It’s not an easy road for Sam Tyler being stuck in 1973, but it’s a very enjoyable road to be following him on.

Food for thought:
Has political correctness gone to far in our society? Have we lost the ability to live our lives because we are too afraid to offend anyone?
