PRESS RELEASE Unprecedented midnight screenings for The Dark Knight, saw IMAX sell out last night. The Dark Knight starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, and directed by Christopher Nolan, opened today at SKYCITY Cinemas IMAX® Queen St in conjunction with the film’s wide release on 35mm.
Advance IMAX ticket sales demonstrates the huge enthusiasm surrounding the movie: SKYCITY Cinemas IMAX Queen St midnight session sold out and many other across cirucuit this weekend have been pre sold. SKYCITY Cinemas St Lukes and Albany opened additional midnight sessions due to popular demand. All Gold Class evening sessions this weekend are sold out.
The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience features six sequences filmed with IMAX® cameras, the first time ever that a major feature film has been even partially shot using IMAX cameras, marking a revolutionary integration of the two film formats.
Sequences shot in traditional 35mm have been digitally re-mastered into The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® technology. The two formats will be seamlessly integrated and morph between IMAX and IMAX DMR.
