Martian Child

Posted by admin On August - 14 - 2008

Known for taking quirky roles, John Cusack is at home in this story about a misfit author who adopts a misfit child.  Struggling to come to terms after the death of his wife, David decides to go through with an adoption process that began when his wife was alive.

The candidate is a small boy who believes that he is a Martian sent to earth to observe, take notes and acquire ‘stuff.’

Afraid of the sun, and sadly, human contact, Dennis is a hard kid to get close to – he exhibits subtle autistic tendencies – but has so much to offer locked away inside his tortured soul.

Dennis mirrors David in many ways, but it tales David most of the movie to really understand Dennis, but it is a delightful journey of acceptance, mistakes and love.

The two lead roles played by Cusack and Bobby Coleman work off each others energy perfectly, creating a dynamic character driven tale that relies on these performances to capture the audiences heart.

If you like Cusack’s quirkiness and love a well written human drama, Martian Child is sure to please.

Food for thought:
Acceptance is a powerful thing, without it, love can feel like a hollow façade.  If we fail to accept people for who they are, instead of loving, we end up judging.
