Babylon AD depicts world domination by a group known as the Neolites. Gaining more power and influence than the church in medieval times, the Neolite denomination holds the key to the universe. Rooted in every situation they themselves operate with omnipresence and influence world order.
Toorop (Vin Diesel) is a mercenary/assassin hired by the cultic group to deliver a package to the strong and protected U.S.A. Forbidden to enter U.S. soil again for fear of terrorism-Toorop has to overcome many obstacles to deliver and get paid! Trusting not a soul-he operates in a lonely world filled with destruction.
Aurora, the human package for delivery, is a mystical person with certain powers and abilities that cannot be explained. She was hidden in a convent under strict supervision of Sister Rebeka (Michelle Yeoh). Sister Rebeka raises her to extreme knowledge and understanding while protecting her from outside influences.
Clashing two stories and three lives together, the three journey to what seems the end for their very existence…they meet a few friends and foes along the way all the while facing the bumps and bruises the world has to offer them.
I must say-Babylon AD got my benefit of the doubt, but soon proved me wrong! I admit some of the action was enjoyable, but the plot had so many holes I was left disappointed and skeptic of the entire thing. Depicting the futuristic rule of the Neolites Reign was interesting, but such a waste of time in the end. Diesel mumbles throughout the entire movie. Aurora’s character is way underdeveloped. Coming up to the end you long for something of value, but no…it further induces the frustration.
Twisted logic, poor story, and bad acting leaves Babylon AD a bust in my opinion-so let’s hope for a better return to the big screen for Diesel in his up and coming Fast and the Furious Sequel (we shall see!).
