Shine A Light

Posted by admin On November - 6 - 2008

According to the promotional blurb, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese and the world’s greatest rock n’ roll band unite to bring audiences the year’s most extraordinary feature film, Shine A Light.

Well I wouldn’t exactly call it a feature film; I’d be more inclined to call it a mockumentary. But it’s not that either – it’s just that the bits with Marty in them seem a little to set up and on occasion campy.

The concert portion of this musical documentary is where the money is though, and these geriatrics sure can rock. The filming in reality is nothing out of the ordinary – it’s just really good, professionally done, concert filming. Great sound with great visuals and a band that has a sense of humour and love doing what they do.

A nice touch is the interspersing of archival footage of the Stones being interviewed over the course of their career – adds a nice bit of history and a little more of their humour.

All in all it’s a great little package for fans of rock and roll.
