The tag line for the BBC’s three part documentary, Son of God claims to be ‘An analysis of one of the most remarkable lives in history’, utilising as much scientific and historical research as possible and combining their findings with cutting edge computer graphics, the BBC’s aims were to uncover just who this mythical Jesus was.
To many typical Christians, science seems to be the enemy of faith, but in this documentary, science along with reliable historical sources, proves beyond doubt that Jesus actually existed. More than that, it goes to prove some of the more remarkable parts of the Gospel story. The star that lead the Wise Men to Jesus was more than just a bright shining star, it was an astrological declaration that something amazing was about to happen! The sweating of blood in the garden of Gethsemane is supported by numerous documented modern medical cases.
The research into other parts of the Gospel story shines new light on what Judas may or may not have done, and whilst Son of God couldn’t prove that Jesus was resurrected, it does disprove some of the more recent claims that Jesus either didn’t die, or his body was simply stolen.
All in all, Son of God shows that science and historical records prove that Jesus (the Historical figure at least) was very real, and suggests that belief in his resurrection may not be all that far fetched when you look at how this solitary man has influenced the course of history.
Son of God is an inspirational, thought provoking, fresh look at one of history’s most famous figures.
