Movie stars Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro may film a movie in New Zealand this year.
Top Hollywood director Martin Scorsese is in negotiations with the actors to play the leads in his next movie Silence, which will be partly shot in New Zealand, entertainment industry magazine Variety reported yesterday.
The film will be an adaptation of a novel by Shusako Endo and William Johnston about Portuguese Christian missionaries in 17th-century Japan.
Variety said production was likely to start here later this year.
Actor Gael Garcia Bernal best known for Babel and Y Tu Mama Tambien is also in talks for a part in the film, which Scorsese has wanted to make for the past decade. [stuff]
