Bethesda has announced a brand new Fallout game, Fallout: New Vegas.
However, it won’t be a sequel to Fallout 3. Fallout: New Vegas will be developed by Obsidian Entertainment and will be set in the same universe as Fallout 3 but it won’t be a direct sequel. New Vegas will take place on the West coast of America, home of the first two Fallout games.
Bethesda VP Pete Hines confirmed that it would be an RPG but not much else, although he did note it had no impact on what Todd Howard and the Fallout 3 team are working on. It’s in good hands, though – many of the Obsidian team worked on the original Fallout PC games.
The tentative release date is in 2010, with more information due to be revealed at E3. [omx]
Call me cynical, but is this going to be like the Call of Duty series, where there’s two development teams working on separate projects in the same universe, but one team is way better than the other…
