There’s something about black comedy that makes me feel a little bit uneasy about laughing out loud, that makes me feel a bit disappointed that this is the style of humour that we seek for entertainment & I often just want it to move on, to get it over and done with because it just seems as though it has gotten too ridiculous and makes me ask how can they keep doing this?
But on reflection i find myself thinking about it, laughing out loud at the humour and thinking wasn’t that scene well scripted, the actors just wonderful and you should go and see it!
A Film With Me In it is a real Irish delight. Whilst the humour is dark it really is very funny. The performances by the two main actors, Mark & pierce, played by Mark Doherty (who also wrote the script) & Dylan Moran, respectively, are brilliant.
The two friends have great aspirations for their careers in acting and writing, but both are extremely unsuccessful despite their endeavours.
They live at the same address, a decaying Edwardian building. Mark lives in the basement flat with his girlfirend, Sally, quadriplegic brother, David, and Sally’s dog, Jersey. pierce lives in a flat upstairs, as does the landlord Jack.
Mark’s lack of honesty at passing on the hard earnt rent money from Sally to the landlord and pierce’s inclination for time at the pub and money on the horses does not help their situation. Therefore Jack is reluctant to carry out the necessary maintenance to make living in these premises safe for the occupants.
Sally can no longer cope with Mark’s unrealistic view of what life is really about and announces that its over and her imminent departure.
Life takes on a very different turn for Mark and his dependency on pierce to help him out of his turmoil can only lead him one way!
