This New Zealand movie is a must see!
It is written & co produced by Tom Scott and Directed by Paul Middleditch. It stars Danielle Cormack, Joel Edgerton, Rhona Mitra, Thomas Kretschmann, Michelle Langstone & Les Hill.
It is a sophisticated production with stunning scenes of Wellington and Berlin. As one would expect with something written by Tom Scott there is plenty of humour & it is damn good humour interspersed between the dramatic storyline.
It is a brutally honest story of a group of friends whose marriages and relationships are at that stage where they have reached a plateau when you suddenly think is this it? Where has the lust and passion gone? They have children, demanding jobs, study, mortgages and all the trappings that go with settling down and becoming mature!
As one marriage falls apart and another faltering one is teetering, desire and infatuation develops between the wife of the first marriage and the husband of the second. They both know it is the wrong thing to do but they cannot help themselves.
The series of events that happen are heartbreakingly believable and I am sure most people will be able to relate to, either as an experience of their own or a situation they have experienced with someone else close to them.
Those who are still young enough not to be cynical about love will still enjoy this movie, it is visually stunning and deals with relationship issues in a frank and humorous manner.
The mood of the scenes is enhanced with the soundtrack by Samuel Flynn Scott & Luke Buda of the Phoenix Foundation, along with The NZ Symphony Orchestra.
This really is an outstanding New Zealand movie and I think it has lifted our movie industry into another echelon. Bravo!!
