Deciding what to watch during the New Zealand International Film Festival can be a daunting task. With so many great movies to choose from, browsing the Festival program can take as long as watching a standard Hollywwod film. Sony have released a new poster for District 9, their Neill Blomkamp directed Sci-Fi movie about an extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth who suddenly find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology. The Sicilian Girl
The Sicilian Girl (La siciliana ribelle) is a French/Italian drama, based on the true story of 17-year-old Rita, a Sicilian girl who had the courage to testify against the Mafia. It’s the second Italian Mafia movie in recent months, Gomorrah, which takes a gritty, hard hitting look at the modern day mafia being the first. Unlike Gomorrah however, which held no glimmer of hope or redemption, The Sicilian Girl is based on a real story and shows the power that each of us has, to stand up for what we believe.
