Casey Beldon doesn’t know it yet, but her entire world is about to be turned upside-down. Whilst out jogging, she comes across a mysterious boy, who then disappears, only to reappear and torment her for the rest of the film.
The little boy you see, is her twin she never knew she had, a brother who dies during childbirth, now a demon wanting to be reborn through his sister.
Yes, I know it’s not plausible, but it’s a film so get over it.
The Unborn is pretty much by the numbers scare fare that does an adequate job at keeping the audience on its toes. The characters for the most part are disappointingly dumb, and the climax is somewhat of a let down. The dreary-bleak mid winter setting and the abandoned hospital however, were stokes of genius however, and the strongest part of the entire film is the casting of Ethan Cutkosky as the little demon Barto. The boy gives me the creeps. Seriously, if I met this pint-sized spawn of Satan, I’d take off running for my life. He owns the movie and without him, The Unborn would dissolve into a major borefest.
So The Unborn is an average scare film, with a stand out performance that will make you never want to have children, with some great cinematography. Watch it with the lights turned off for maximum enjoyment.
