New model, original parts is the tagline to the fourth movie in the Fast & Furious franchise, and whilst the producers haven’t forgotten the previous three movies – they are referenced from time to time – they have gone back to the original formula, with a few twists.

Dom Toretto is still a wanted man, using his skills with cars to commit the most ingenious crimes, and Brian O’Conner is back on the right side of the law, with the FBI tentatively taking him back.

Their paths should never have really crossed again, but as luck would have it, they both end up wanting to get the same bad guy, but for vastly different reasons, and soon enough they are working together to bring the big guy down, the only way they know how. 

Cars are the main focus of Fast and Furious, the acting is not the highlight of this movie, it’s about the adrenaline rush of fast cars, perilous situations and close calls. It’s about unbelievable stunts, spectacular crashes and rush hour street racing.

Director Justin Lin has already delivered one instalment of the franchise, so was already familiar with the concept and ran with it, providing enough action, eye candy and twists to keep the fans happy.

It’s not the most spectacular movie you’ll see this year, but it nails all the essentials and delivers and entertaining night out.

If you don’t have a code – a creed, or something to believe in – then you have nothing.

One of the major themes in Fast And Furious is the concept of living by a set of rules – a code – it’s a code that you have to decide for yourself, and without one you are essentially left blowing in the wind. This is a concept that Dom has embraced a long time back, but one that Brian has to face up to the reality of and decide for himself what he wants to live for.
