Charlie is a little on edge. He’s an undercover agent with one final mission to complete. It’s an important mission, one that will see him take home two million pounds – enough for his son Jamie and himself to retire to America.
Jamie looks up to his dad – he’s a real hero, though he does start to notice that his dad is acting a little weird recently, he even contemplates the idea that his dad might just be living in a totally different reality.
Robert Carlyle excels in his role as Charlie, a man who is quite literally going mad. He’s been pushed too far, and his breaking point is spread through the 113-minute runtime. Sure it’s a little slow to begin, but once the story gets going it’ll have you hooked as it gradually builds momentum right to the emotionally explosive ending.
I Know You Know is in no way a feel good film; it takes a close, honest look at mental illness and how it affects everyone. But in being a serious film, it has an important role and is a film that should be watched and talked about.
