Inspired by a real-life behavioral scientist, Lie To Me is the fictional story of Dr. Cal Lightman and his company, The Lightman Group. Essential a group of living lie detectors, the deception experts who work for Cal are some of the best there are. Cal however is the best, and he knows it.
With a character trait that enables him to offend just about everyone, Cal still manages to find plenty of work, ranging from the FBI and local cops, to big business and individuals, everyone has different reasons fro wanting to find out the truth. With each case the Lighman Group takes (usually two and episode) there are uniquely different ways to finding out the truth.
Whilst not as action packed or gruesome as some police dramas (because that’s the box I’m going to squeeze Lie To Me in) Lie To Me is extremely compelling viewing, and a breath of original programming into an over saturated genre.
Watching this right after my 24 hour marathon with season 5 of Lost, Lie To Me has extremely big boots to fill. Whilst it didn’t compel me to undergo another marathon viewing, Lie To Me was just as impressive, but like a well cooked meal and an expensive bottle of win, it deserves to be consumed at a more relaxed pace.
With an impressive bunch of interesting characters, lead by the very capable Tim Roth, Lie To me is the best new TV drama of the year.
