In Hollywood, it seems that everyone has problems, and if you’re the cream of the A-list then you go to Dr. Henry Carter to relax and tell him all about your issues. You see, Henry is a shrink to the stars.
The stars problems are as varies as they come: Jack (played by a seemingly uncredited Robin Williams), only wants permission to cheat on his wife; Patrick is a germophobic film producer and Jeremy is a writer looking for a way into the business.
The only problem is that Henry is an alcoholic drug abuser who isn’t able to come to terms with the loss of his wife. Hardly a man in a position to help others.
Compounding his problems are his family and friends who try to help him come to terms with his loss, this comes to a head when his father reefers, and insists that he takes a pro-bono case involving Jemma, a high-school student, who is trying to come to terms with the loss of her mother.
It seems like they may just be the type of medicine they both need, if only they can start communicating.
Promoted as a comedy, Shrink excels as a heart warming drama with a deeply dark undertone of black humour and Keven Spacey is once again in his element.
