Oh Boy.. When the trailer rolled for this movie I was in. Tina Fey and Steve Carell in the same movie? Genius!! So the ultimate question.. does it deliver??
The movie is centered around a married couple, the Fosters (Carell & Fey), who are going thru the usual “married with kids” routine. After they start seeing the cracks in their friends marriage they decide to spice up theirs with a night on the town. After failing to secure a reservation at an up market restaurant they take the chance on an empty reservation and end up with more than just a table for two.
So with the scene set the action heads into over load.. Add the Mob, a half naked Expert (Mark Wahlberg), car chase scenes that are side splittingly hillarious and the unstoppable ad-libbing stylings of Steve Carell and Tina Fey, you got yourself a movie. There are quite a few memorable moments through this film. Scenes with Fey & Wahlberg brush lightly on 30 Rock stylings and Carell’s dialog with a scared taxi driver are just a few to watch out for. As for a pole dancing scene with Fey & Carell, genius.
While the director (Shawn Levy) has had his fair share of average comedic outings, this movie has a number of well designed moments where Fey & Carell can be who they are; Comedians. The moments where they are cut loose are wickedly funny. If you are a fan of either of these two you will love this movie. If your not a fan, you will probably still love it.
So does it deliver? Yes..
