(Ten years ago / In 1972), a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire… The A-Team.
When I first saw the trailers I thought this could either be one of those “Frak Yeah!!” movie moments, or another franchise headed towards the flaming bag of poop on the front door. But i am VERY happy to say this one is a “Frak Yeah!!” movie. Its like the movie makers had taken the advice of the A Team opening sequence and decided to hire the A Team to make this movie, because it does justice to the original TV series.
The movies starts right back to a time before the A-Team began, and chronicles the journey from top level Special Forces veterans, through their court martial and incarceration and on to their initial mission as Soldiers of Fortune attempting to clear their name. The pace of the movie starts as it intends to go on, quick, witty and always very very comical.
As far as characters go they are not perfect, but then remakes never really are, they do however maintain the original mannerisms and bring more than an acceptable modern translation. Once the characters are introduced you look past any comparisons to the television series and become immersed in some very like-able rouges.
This movie is funny funny funny. A warning should be attached to the start stating that popcorn shouldn’t be eaten by the handfuls for fear of choking. There are many moments during the film where I erupted into uncontrollable laughter. Add yourself some ridiculous helicopter stunts, mid air tank battle (and subsequent landing scene – I’m laughing just remembering it) and too many other classic moments, you have yourself the funniest action movie i have seen for a very very long time.
If you are a big fan of the original Television Series don’t fear the trailers, they really don’t reveal much of the movie at all, and the trip to the DVD store will definitely be rewarding for you. And as a tip for fans, stay past the credits… trust me you will want to.. For those who have never heard of the A-Team you’re in for a treat. No previous knowledge is required on this film, you will find it engaging, entertaining and very very funny.
You know what.. this movie delivered.. I’m loath to handing out full marks, as this is in no way the perfect movie. But the title we attach to our 5 star rating suits this movie just fine.. Perfect, This is why we sit in dark rooms and forget to eat our popcorn.
Enjoy the funniest Action Comedy movie so far this year..
