I could tell you all about the plot for The Expendables, but like any 80′s action film, the plot isn’t really that important. Yes, I did just say 80′s action film, because that’s exactly what The Expendables is, an 80′s action film on crack cocaine.

All you really need to know is that it’s got action, massive explosions that would make Jerry Bruckheimer wet his pants and a cast of actions stars that would make Schwarzenegger cry like a baby. Its a whose who of action stars, including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis – and if that cast doesn’t give you cold sweats then you might just be a momma’s boy who would rather be watching Driving Miss Daisy.  Read the rest of this entry »

Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite passed away on Sunday due to complications from cancer. He was 64. A representative for Mr. Postlethwaite confirmed his passing in Shropshire, western England.

Mr. Postlethwaite earned an Oscar nomination for his work in In the Name of the Father, but may be best remembered for his role as Kobayashi in The Usual Suspects. Though cancer had caused him to work less frequently in recent months, this year he appeared in Clash of the Titans, Inception, and The Town, the latter being a particularly fierce turn. His weathered, craggy visage meant that he’d never be a leading man, but Postlethwaite’s amazing face, combined with great talent, allowed him to become one of the most recognizable and effective character actors in the business.

Pete Postlethwaite is survived by his wife Jacqui and two children Will, 21, and daughter Lily, 14.

Scott Pilgrim is the story of a 22 year old slacker living in Toronto, he plays bass in a mates garage band called sex bob-omb, he’s dating a high schooler and sleeping on the floor of a friends place without any real direction in his life. Its all good tho, his rating is awesome, and Ramona Flowers, the girl of his dreams (literally) has just turned up in the real world.

Edger Wrights job of adapting the Scott Pilgrim comic series was never going to be easy, what seems to start out as a quirky indie romance, blindsides you with tekken style fights, sound monster battles, vegan’s with vegan superpowers & vegan police.

Rest easy tho, Edger nailed it.

He’s taken what was a bizzare mash up of comic randomness, kung fu and gaming references and sculpted it in into the craziest, funnest movies i’ve seen this year. All of the performances are great, the music is perfect, and though it doesn’t have much to do with the movie, the trippy opening sequence totally set the mood for me.  Read the rest of this entry »

Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for Spring Break, as the town is invaded by a group of the worlds most beautiful college girls and drunken males,all interested in one thing.

But before we get to that thing, a brilliant cameo by Richard Dreyfuss sets the scene as his drunken fishing escapade sets in motion a non-too small earthquake that opens up a rift in the bottom of the lake, giving thousands of prehistoric Piranha access to the upper lake and it’s booming college population.

Oh you think you know what’s coming don’t you? Well after Director Alexandre Aja gives us a little taste of the kind of gore we’re in for with Dreyfuss’ all to short opening scene, Aja gives us a hint as to the other main component of this apparent ode to B-Grade films of the past, with the introduction of an apparently famous internet porn director and his two starlets who are using Spring break to produce their latest skin flick.  Read the rest of this entry »
