Top Gear Apocalypse

Posted by admin On February - 9 - 2011

Top Gear Apocalypse is an interesting little beast. It’s a kind of comedic what if look at life in a post apocalyptic world. There are the usual challenges – driving blacked out cars using only the sat-nav in an effort to simulated the total darkness of a nuclear winter through to a Mad Max style MOT (WOF) test – and these are often hilarious and will see you wetting your pants with laughter. The problem is that there isn’t enough of the challenges to keep the entertainment going to the 75 minute run time, and the bits in-between seem forced and boring.

The biggest weakness however, is that for some unexplained reason, only James May and Richard Hammond have survived the apocalypse. There is no sign – or mention – of Clarkson.

Now I’m not the biggest fan of Clarkson. In-fact I’d normally reefer to him as a bit of an arsehole. But it has to be said, that with out him, May and Hammond aren’t quite as funny – they’re, well, a little too polite.

So I’m in two minds with Top Gear Apocalypse, on the one had I did find myself laughing out loud every so often, but there were long periods where I wished I’d never started watching the DVD as I was so completely bored.
