Wild Target

Posted by admin On August - 3 - 2011

Wild Target is a delicious British black comedy, starring Billy Nighy as Victor Maynard, a middle-aged assassin, who lives in the shadow of his formidable but deceased father and a mother who expects him to live up to the families reputation. Victor’s reputation for lethal efficiency cannot be matched, the the lonely life of an assassin matched with his slowly increasing age sets him up for an unexpected change of direction when he’s hired to take out a compulsive thief who stole from the wrong person.

The thief in question is the charming Rose (Emily Blunt) who doesn’t seem to be able to exist for more than five minutes without compulsively stealing something she doesn’t actually need. Mixed up in all of this, and quite by accident is Tony (Rupert Grint in his best role yet) a young lad who doesn’t know what he wants from life but turns out to be a bad hand with a gun.

Predictably Victor can’t go through with the job of killing Rose and when Tony accidently saves them both, their fates are sealed. They have to stick together and defeat the foes that are out to get them.

Sure, the main story is predictable, but Wild target still has a few surprises and plenty of black humour to keep you laughing for the majority of the film.

A refreshing change to a genre over-saturated with what Americans call humour. Give me black British humour anytime.
