Dr Martin Harris is a successful scientist with a trophy wife and speeding his way to the top in the scientific community. Heading to a conference in Germany, Dr Harris reaches his hotel to discover he has left his briefcase at the airport. Heading back to the airport he is involved in a car accident which ultimately robs him of his identity and all he holds dear.
Liam Neeson heads up a not too shabby cast, including a few favorites in Bruno Ganz (He played Hitler in Downfall) and Frank Langella (He played Nixon in Frost/Nixon). However for all the talent on display does this equate to a great DVD? Unfortunately not.
While the premise behind the storyline is great, I really didnt feel like it gripped me enough. Perhaps its my upbringing of Bond and Bourne, but the tension really wasn’t there. I don’t think Neeson does a convincing enough job of a bewildered amnesiac. He’s just too cool, calm and collected for this – almost Jedi like with his ability to contain his emotions. And there is far too few action scenes which allow him to get his hands dirty. Neeson is a fantastic actor, and he has done some amazing movies – this however is not one of his best.
There were a few parts in this movie that were worth watching. The character played by Bruno Ganz was awesome and his scene with Frank Langella brought back a certain cold war charm. However in the end the DVD started to suffer from a spiraling level of predictability.
Ok.. Brass tacks time.. This wasn’t an awful DVD, but it certainly wont keep you on the edge of your seat. FILMGUIDE rating: Reviewed by: Urbankiwi
